The Motivation to Practice III: Beyond Goal Orientation

Book coverYou may be motivated by your conviction and faith, but meditation is not at all goal oriented. You may be somewhat goal oriented, but your concept and understanding of the goal is uncertain. The fact that you have no idea what is going to happen, no real idea about the goal, seems to be the saving grace. If you are goal oriented, fine; just let it be that way. It might turn out to be a big joke. If you are not goal oriented, it might turn out to be a big promise. Who knows? It depends on the practice itself.
