Suchness is Dynamic

book cover
Dōgen proclaims that the entire phenomenal world is just a small portion of unsurpassable enlightenment. We know suchness exists because the self is not limited to body and mind, and is constantly passing along. Suchness is dynamic and active, not at all static. Dōgen says:

Life is borne along by the passage of time,
hardly to be kept for even a moment. Rosy
cheeks have gone away somewhere—as they
vanish, there are no traces. When we look
carefully, there are many things gone which
we can never see again. The red heart doesn’t
stay either—it comes and goes bit by bit.
