When You Turn the TV Off

Book coverYou may stay up late watching television. When you finally turn the tv off, you’re still watching, but watching nothing. You have turned off your tv, but you are still there, very awake and ready for something. At the same time, you’ve had enough entertainment. There is a sense of both suspension and of vacancy. Meditation is like that vacant aftereffect of watching tv. The set is off, but you’re still fully awake and fully there.
